Where I Come From

Wow, you actually want to know about me lil' ol' me, the person behind the list of small dog breeds?

Well, here goes. My name is Nadia and I live in a tiny country in Europe, named Belgium. Yes, that’s right, from the chocolate (did I mention I’m a chocoholic?).

For as long as I can remember I’ve been absolutely crazy about all kinds of animals. Except the 8-legged ones, though admittedly, I'm liking them better as time goes by.

When I was about 5 years old I was determined to become a vet. Unfortunately, I started suffering from severe allergies shortly after. Any rodent or cat would have me sneezing, wheezing and tearing within minutes. I did have a number of pets growing up though; chickens, fish, walking stick (yes, I count those as pets), finches, rabbits (despite my allergies) and dogs.

So when I finally moved out of the house and got a little apartment in the centre of Antwerp (a big city for Belgian standards), I really missed the companionship those animals always seemed to offer me.

About a year after moving, I decided the time was right to get a pet again and I rescued a 7 week old mutt from the shelter. Tassie has been my loyal furry friend for almost 7 years now. She weighs about 37 pounds (17kg, she’s not exactly a small dog), and is a cross between…god knows what  There’s definitely some dachshund in there, probably a bit of poodle and jack russel terrier and perhaps a dash of beauceron/Rottweiler/golden retriever. Whatever was mixed together, it worked like a charm as you can see for yourself ;-)

2 years later I bought a house with a small garden in the suburbs and decided it was time to expand my family with 2 ferrets, Nibbler and Stitch. Dog and ferrets get along pretty well, thank dog, I mean god. They even team up together to get food.

Where I Am Now

Maybe you’re wondering why I built this website?

Well, as I said, I have a lot of allergies. So an animal related job was pretty much out of the question. I did take a course to become a dog therapist. Mostly to educate myself more practically after devouring dozens of books. But apart from giving some friends and family advice and using Tassie as a guinea pig, I never really did anything with all the information I had learned.

Then I realized I could help a lot of people out by putting what I knew online through a website.

I had noticed that small dog breeds were somewhat laughed at (mainly because of how they’re being treated by celebrities) and decided to focus my attention on putting them in the canine spotlight they deserve. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to dress up your dog. As long as the dog doesn’t suffer I’m fine with that. I just want small dog breeds to be treated the way large dog breeds are treated; like dogs. Because that’s when a dog is happiest.

And that’s what I aim for with this website, making small dogs all over the world happier.

A happy, relaxed dog = a happy, relaxed dog owner.

Where I Am Going

At the moment my main goal is to continue growing this website with the help of Site Build It! and consequently help as many people as I can.

In the process I hope to earn a little extra money from it so I can cut down on some hours at the office and spend more time with my furry friends. Who knows, maybe in a year or two I can join the SBI Special Free(dom)Prize Inside bulletin board.

I have seen proof of what you can achieve with Site Build It! All it takes is passion and dedication to start working from home.

Curious about whether Site Build It! can help you too? Click on the link to take the video tour.

If you have any questions after the video tour, the people at SBI! will be more than happy to talk to you personally.

I'd like to close this page off with one of my favourite quotes:
