Indestructible Dog Toys For Small But Heavy ChewersKong Dog ToysThe king of indestructible dog toys is...the Kong. Kong dog toys are recommended by veterinarians, dog trainers and, well, me, my dog Tassie and Nibbler, one of my ferrets. They come in different shapes and sizes, eventhough they started out with a very limite range. The Classic Kong dog toys are made from a natural, extremely bouncy red rubber compound. These red Kongs are recommended for adult dogs who are average chewers. Then there's the Puppy Kong range for beginning chewers. These are made from a softer rubber and have blue & white or pink & white swirl. If you want to avoid your puppy chewing on everything he can find while changing teeth, you better get him one of these. It's also a great way to teach your puppy to play quietly by himself while you do other stuff or aren't home. The Extreme Kong is the most durable of all the Kong dog toys. It's made from a very hard black rubber and is perfect for aggressive chewers. And last but not least, the Senior Kong. I haven't seen these in the pet shops where I live, but I hope they'll be available by the time Tassie needs them. The Senior Kong is made from medium soft rubber with a purple & white swirl. They're recommended for senior dogs and dogs who are only mild chewers. The Kong dog toys normally come with a sizing chart, but I'll copy the info here in case you want to buy one online: 1-20lbs (1-10kg): Small15-35lbs (5-15kg): Medium30-65lbs (15-30kg): L60-90lbs (25-40kg): XL85lbs + (35kg +): XXL But Kong dog toys are more than indestructible dog toys.The ones with Denta-ridges keep your dog's teeth and gums healthy and clean.Most Kongs are also treat dispensers which can entertain your small dog for hours.If your dog loves the water, there's even a range of floating Kong dog toys named Kong Aqua.
Sqwuggies Squeak 'n Tug ToyAnother range of indestructible dog toys is the Sqwuggies Squeak 'n Tug Toy. I'm not sure where they got the name and I can barely pronounce it (then again, English isn't my native tongue). But it's funny. Sqwuggies are squeekable, colorful, fetchable, floatable and tuggable.If you love recycling, you'll have to get one of these. They are made of recycled fire hose material. The material itself is very strong, but I've read some reviews where dogs did manage to open up the seams and remove the straps and squeeker. If your dog is a heavy duty chewer, this probably won't last longer than a week. Then again, it's not a chew toy. So if you intend to play fetch with it and put the toy away after each game, even heavy chewers should be fine with Sqwuggies. I do like the way it looks though, especially with all the bright colors. And, it's machine washable. Always great to get rid of that nasty doggie drool... Hurley Indestructible Dog ToyThe Hurley dog toys are made from a special, pliable material named Zogoflex. It should withstand heavy chewers. And if it doesn't, the manufacturer offers a nice replacement guarantee.If you're concerned about the environment you'll be happy to learn that Hurley dog toys can be recycled and are manufactured in a process which creates virtually no waste. The Hurley indestructible dog toy comes in 3 soft colors; aqua blue, tangerine and granny smith. It bounces and floats and comes in 3 shapes; a bone, a stick and a ball.
The Almost Indestructible BallObviously not a chew toy, the Almost Indestructible Ball does guarantee hours of fun. Manufactured from polyethylene it withstands the roughest play. If you pick the right size (6" or 10"), your dog won't be able to get his teeth on it.I wouldn't recommend using this inside as the ball will literally fly all over the place. So use it in the garden if you have one, or in the park. Zanies ToughstructablesIf you're not a fan of rubber, then Zanies has a range of indestructible dog toys for you.The Zanies Toughstructables are made of rugged nylon canvas. Supposedly they withstand aggressive and persistent chewers. I was worried about the seams tearing, but they seem to be quite sturdy. Zanies Toughstructables float and have a squeeker. They come in 3 different shapes; a bone, a boomerang and the whirleez.
